TX Permanent University Fund (PUF)

Few Texans know that in Texas we have a Permanent University Fund (PUF) which benefits 22 institutions and almost 400,000 students from the UT and A&M educational systems. It is a permanent endowment granted by Texas Constitution and it supports excellence in the educational systems of the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. The market value of this fund is billions of USD. The size is vast with university lands covering a couple of million acres and producing mineral income from oil and gas rentals and royalties, and surface income from easements and alternative energy power generation projects. This idea to benefit citizens of Texas started over a hundred and fifty years ago by brilliant and patriotic Texans who wanted Texas population to be educated and prepared.
